Grinding Coffee Beans Properly
When you are preparing coffee, one of the most important things will be that you have good coffee beans that you are working with - but while most coffee lovers are aware of this, many of them fail to realize that it is also possible to ruin good coffee beans by grinding them improperly. Firstly, be aware of the fact that it is best to grind your own beans at home, as coffee tastes better the more recently the beans were ground (and of course, if you are buying a bag of already-ground beans at the grocery store, these beans have probably been in the bag for months!). But even beyond this knowledge, you should realize that there are some specifics you should know for grinding the coffee itself. French press: If you are preparing your coffee with a french press, you will need to make sure that you are grinding the beans for less time, so that they are coarser than they would normally be; otherwise, you will end up with "gritty" coffee, as the finer grounds will end up mixed into the coffee itself. Standard coffee maker: Of course, many standard coffee makers these days grind the beans on their own - which will eliminate this step of the process for you - but if you are using a standard coffee maker and are still grinding your own beans, you will want to make sure the beans are ground standard, as beans that are too fine will give off a bitter taste, and beans that are too coarse will not give off enough flavor. Espresso: And if you are brewing espresso at home, you should realize that it is extremely important for the beans to be ground very fine. If you fail to grind the beans fine, you will end up with what amounts to weak-tasting coffee, instead of strong-tasting espresso! As you prepare your coffee at home, keep these tips in mind, and you can be sure that you will consistently achieve the results you desire.
